Terms of Service
Effective date: March 17, 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using RentCounsel, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
2. Description of Service
RentCounsel provides AI-assisted tenant-rights information based on statutes and ordinances. The current public product includes free chat and a paid, downloadable landlord-letter workflow.
3. Not Legal Advice
RentCounsel provides legal information, not legal advice. We are not a law firm, we do not represent you, and using the service does not create an attorney-client relationship.
Laws change, facts matter, and generated content may not fit your exact situation. You should consult a qualified attorney for legal advice about your case.
4. Eligibility and Access
- You must be at least 18 years old to use the service.
- The public chat does not require a sign-up. Conversation history is primarily stored in your browser on your device.
- You are responsible for the accuracy of the facts you provide.
5. Pricing and Payments
- Free chat: Asking questions and viewing cited answers is free.
- Paid letter unlock: The downloadable landlord letter is currently offered as a one-time $4.99 purchase.
- Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store your full payment card details.
- Refund requests are handled case by case. Contact us within 7 days of the charge if you believe there was an error.
6. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the service for unlawful, fraudulent, or abusive purposes.
- Attempt unauthorized access to our systems or other users' data.
- Use bots or scraping tools beyond normal browsing and API access.
- Submit false facts in order to generate misleading content.
- Resell or mass-redistribute generated content as your own product.
7. Generated Content
Letters and other generated outputs are drafts for you to review. You are responsible for checking the facts, deciding whether to send them, and determining whether additional legal review is needed.
8. Service Changes and Suspension
We may update, suspend, or remove features at any time. We may also restrict access to users who violate these terms or abuse the service.
9. Disclaimer of Warranties and Liability Limits
The service is provided "as is" and "as available." To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim warranties of accuracy, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, RentCounsel and its operators will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages. Our aggregate liability for claims arising from the service will not exceed the amount you paid to us in the 12 months before the claim.
10. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
